Lunch at Bell’s in Los Alamos
After your stop in Solvang, head to the nearby town of Los Alamos for lunch at Bell’s, a cozy French-inspired bistro known for its simple yet delightful dishes. The egg sandwich here is a favorite, and it pairs perfectly with a glass of champagne. Los Alamos itself has a laid-back, Western-meets-French-countryside vibe, making Bell’s feel like a true hidden gem.
Afternoon Wine Tasting at Demetria Estate
Next, make your way to Demetria Estate, one of the most scenic wineries in Los Olivos. Tucked away in the hills, this biodynamic winery offers stunning views of the Santa Ynez Valley and a peaceful, remote atmosphere. For $30 per person, you can enjoy a tasting flight on their beautifully maintained grounds, where wildflowers bloom year-round and friendly vineyard cats roam, happily accepting head scratches from visitors. The scenic drive to Demetria may feel remote, but the destination is well worth it for the charming ambiance. The views are reminiscent of the French countryside and it is hard to find a winery with a better location in the area.
Sunset in Downtown Los Olivos
Wrap up your day with a stop in downtown Los Olivos. Be mindful of the time, as many tasting rooms close around 5:00 pm on weekdays. One winery that was open late was Carhartt Family Wines, where we enjoyed live music on the back patio, and a few wandering goats added to the evening's charm. With a laid-back vibe, Carhartt is a welcoming place to enjoy a final glass of wine, and if you’re hungry, there’s often a taco truck parked nearby to grab a quick bite before heading home.
From the vineyard cats to the sweeping valley views and rustic charm, a day in Los Olivos is a perfect way to experience California’s wine country. It’s a trip that offers the relaxation of a countryside getaway with a taste of adventure, good food, and great wine.
